APRASL Overview

The purpose of the Academic Program Review and Assessment of Student Learning (APRASL – pronounced appraisal) is to provide faculty-led guidance and expertise in the design, implementation, use, and continuous improvement of SMCC’s formal program review and evaluation and assessment plans for academic programs, disciplines, departments, and services.  This work is done with a focus on assessment of student learning outcomes.  This committee combines and expands on the work of the former Institutional Effectiveness/Academic Assessment and Program Review committees.

During academic year 2006-2007, the newly combined Institutional Effectiveness/Academic Assessment and Academic Program Review committee will review existing procedures and timelines, review SMCC “program” definitions, identify quantitative and qualitative criteria and measures, and refine the APRASL process to be responsive to changing needs and accountability measures.  During the spring semester, the APRASL committee will provide finalize the timeline and provide orientation and training on the new procedures and timelines.

Existing Program

The existing Program Review process will be suspended during 2006-2007 as program definitions and review processes are reviewed and refined.  The existing Institutional Effectiveness/Academic Assessment process will continue during 2006-2007 and results will be incorporated into the APRASL process.  The APRASL process will be fully implemented during academic year 2007-2008.
