The Maricopa Community Colleges will ask voters to approve $951,359,000 in General Obligation Bonds in November 2004, for new classroom construction, renovation, technology, parking, security and land purchases to meet future growth needs. Nearly 85% of the funds will be utilized for construction and renovation of classroom and laboratory space at all ten colleges with funding being almost evenly split between the four quadrants of the county. Every college will receive part of almost $137,000,000 to improve infrastructure, increase energy efficiency and improve technology districtwide. In addition, the Maricopa Community Colleges will purchase land for future college development in the Southwest Phoenix/Laveen area, the Northwest Maricopa County/Surprise/Peoria area and the Southwest Maricopa County/Goodyear/Buckeye area.

South Mountain Community College

South Mountain Community College will receive more than $59,000,000 for 112,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment, a new Library/Learning Resource Center with computer classrooms, labs and a Teaching and Learning Center, renovated multi-purpose and technology enriched classrooms, a new Science Building with classrooms and labs, renovated mathematics classrooms in the Physical Science Building, an expanded central facilities plant to support growth, an expanded Guadalupe Learning Center with classrooms and student service areas, new roadways through the campus and increased safety, and improved technology support and telecommunications and data networks. A new SMCC Ahwatukee/Gila River Indian Community area education center will be developed with classrooms and student support services.*

Chandler-Gilbert Community College

Chandler-Gilbert Community College will receive more than $87,000,000 for 170,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment, a new information technologies complex, athletics facilities, performing arts space, an expanded student center, new, expanded and remodeled classrooms, labs and student services at CGCC Williams Campus, and an expanded CGCC Sun Lakes Education Center with new classrooms and meeting rooms, as well as new and improved roads, sidewalks, entrances and signage. Additional educational outreach to fast-growing areas such as Queen Creek will also be considered. A new Healthcare Training Facility will be constructed at the Williams Campus as a partnership among CGCC, MCC and GWCC including classrooms, labs and lecture rooms.*

Estrella Mountain Community College

Estrella Mountain Community College will receive more than $71,000,000 in General Obligation Bonds for 156,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment, mediated classrooms, expanded information commons, library, learning enhancement centers, community rooms, science labs and a university center designed to enhance partnerships and transfer opportunities. New construction will add occupational programs facilities with classrooms, labs and flexible learning spaces, allied health, fine arts, culinary studies, physical fitness and specialized workforce training spaces, an expanded and remodeled SouthWest Skill Center with new occupational and training classrooms. A teacher education facility will house a childcare center and labs for child development programs and campus infrastructure. Improvements include new entrances, roads, and technology.*

GateWay Community College

GateWay Community College will receive more than $97,000,000 for 139,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment, a new Student Services Building with mediated classrooms and labs, a new library and computer commons, a new Instructional Building with classrooms, labs and lecture halls, a greatly expanded and remodeled Maricopa Skill Center with new occupational and computer classrooms and parking, as well as improvement of parking, conference space and telecommunications. A new GWCC Downtown Phoenix Education Center will also be created in partnership with ASU and TGen with classrooms and computer and science labs and conference areas. A new Healthcare Training Facility will be constructed at the CGCC Williams Campus as a partnership among CGCC, MCC and GWCC including classrooms, labs and lecture rooms.*

Glendale Community College

Glendale Community College will receive more than $105,000,000 for 270,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment; a new Instructional Building for Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Nursing and Psychology with classrooms and labs; renovation of the Student Union with modernized and expanded food service, dining and student government facilities; a new Classroom Building for Applied Technologies with computer and specialized classrooms; renovation of the T-1 and T-2 Buildings; remodeling of the T-3 Building with updated automotive engine and transmission labs and computer classrooms; renovation of the Business and Technology Building with updated teaching areas and computer labs; and remodeling of the Women’s Physical Education Building (to be renamed the Fitness and Wellness Building, effective summer 2004).  New classroom and lab buildings at GCC North will support enhanced student services, a library, food services area, bookstore, fitness center and computer commons.  Improvements to campus entrances, campus roads and parking will be made at both the Main and North campuses.*

Mesa Community College

Mesa Community College will receive more than $111,000,000 for 211,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, laboratories and equipment, four new instructional buildings that will form the science and mathematics cluster with classrooms and laboratories, the communication and humanities cluster with classrooms, performing and fine arts cluster with performance and practice rooms, and a health and wellness cluster with classrooms and laboratories, renovation of several buildings for new classrooms and study spaces, renovation of the Student Center and student services buildings to expand student services functions and meeting areas, new classroom and laboratory buildings at MCC at Red Mountain, new parking areas, and telecommunications equipment and data networks. A new MCC Downtown Campus will be developed in collaboration with the City of Mesa with classrooms, laboratories and student support services enhancing MCC’s program offerings in downtown Mesa. A new Healthcare Training Facility will be constructed at the CGCC Williams Campus as a partnership among CGCC, MCC and GWCC including classrooms, labs and lecture rooms.*

Student Center and student services buildings to expand student services functions and meeting areas, new classroom and laboratory buildings at MCC at Red Mountain, new parking areas, and telecommunications equipment and data networks. A new MCC Downtown Campus will be developed in collaboration with the City of Mesa with classrooms, laboratories and student support services enhancing MCC’s program offerings in downtown Mesa. Paradise Valley Community College

Paradise Valley Community College will receive more than $72,000,000 for 163,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment, a new classroom building with computer labs and lecture halls, a new life science lab building, renovated space for a new Physical Science/Applied Justice Studies lab and classrooms, an expanded Library/computer commons area, a new Multi-Purpose Center including classrooms and labs, an expanded and remodeled Student Center with additional dining facilities and expanded student services, a larger Child Development Center, a safer pedestrian mall and relocated and expanded campus roadways, and improved technology support, emergency communications and data networks. A new PVCC campus will be developed at 56th Street and the Carefree Highway with 25,000 sq. ft. of general-purpose classrooms, labs and student services space.*

Phoenix College

Phoenix College will receive more than $70,000,000.  These funds will make possible189,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs, and student and instructional support facilities.  Plans call for renovation and expansion of The Hannelly Center to centralize student support services, renovation of the Sciences Building to update labs and classrooms, a new Student Center, a new Arts Center with enhanced instructional and exhibition spaces, and a new Environmental Services facility. The College is also committed to remaining current in the areas of instructional technology support and telecommunications and data networks.*

Rio Salado College

Rio Salado College will receive more than $63,000,000 for 172,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated facilities at multiple locations throughout the county; an additional administrative/student services building to house multi-functional space, course production and instructional support areas, and offices; a renovation of three floors of the existing RSC Tempe building; an expanded and remodeled RSC Sun Cities Lifelong Learning Center with meeting rooms, labs, and offices; a new facility at RSC 7th Avenue Adult Learning Center to include classrooms, science and computer labs, and student support services areas, as well as improved parking; and two new educational service centers with complete student services and testing facilities.  The College’s radio stations, KJZZ, KBAQ and Sun Sounds of Arizona, will receive new and upgraded equipment. RSC’s allocation will also be used to meet needs for teaching and learning technology, media and telecommunications equipment and student and staff technology support.*

Scottsdale Community College

Scottsdale Community College will receive more than $62,000,000 for 154,000 sq. ft. of new or renovated classrooms, labs and equipment, a new Sciences Building, a new Student Center with improved student gathering places, food services and meeting spaces, an expanded Music Building and Performing Arts Center with classrooms and labs, a new Classroom Building, renovated classroom and lab space for Nursing, Music, Social and Behavioral Sciences and other teaching functions, improved campus safety, new roadways and parking renovation, and increased technology support, telecommunications and data networks.*

*After two years of study and public discussion, the projects listed have been agreed upon with the colleges, the District and the public. However, no project list is final until the Governing Board formally approves the bond issuance.
