  • Consolidate trips and minimize stops while you’re traveling.
  • Carpool, walk, ride your bike or use mass transit systems.
  • Avoid printing out emails.

Reuse

  • Swap your media files and computers out with others. Check out Gigoit, Craigslist, or Freecycle for free or inexpensive trades on everything from computers to dorm room essentials.
  • Bring along natural fiber bags when shopping and turn down the plastic and paper.

Recycle

  • Paper
  • Aluminum
  • Plastics
  • Glass

  • Paper
  • Cans
  • Metals
  • Computers

Choose

  • Use cleaning products that are safe for the environment (see this list of all-natural cleaning products)
  • Use cold water for washing clothes rather than hot water. You’ll cut energy use by 90% and its better for your clothes!
  • Use locally grown, organic foods and encourage natural farming.
  • Stop bulk mail by contacting those who send it or contacting one of the groups below
    • 41pounds.org will contact 20 to 30 direct mail companies on your behalf to stop the majority of your bulk mail. With just a few minutes and $41, you’re finished — for five years! You can sit back and enjoy the benefits. http://www.earthshare.org/tips/2008/springtips08.html
  • Use LED lights during the holidays. They reduce energy costs and you’ll never have to replace a bulb!

  • Volunteer your time!
  • Donate money to assist in cleanup efforts.
    • Ask your company if they match contributions to nonprofit organizations.
