Classes for beginning to advanced golfers start in August

Whether you’re a beginning or advanced golfer, you can swing into action with golf classes at the South Mountain Community College Ahwatukee Center.
 
 “Tee time” begins in August for green golfers.  Two classes in Beginning Golf (PED101JX) will be offered for 16 weeks on Tuesdays, beginning Aug. 14,  from 8 to 9:40 a.m., and Wednesdays, beginning Aug. 15, from 5:30 to 7:10 p.m.  Two additional classes for beginners will run on Saturdays for 10 weeks, beginning Aug. 18, from 8 to 10:40 a.m. and (the second) from 10:45 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.
 
Students will learn golf fundamentals, with emphasis on putting, pitching, chipping, plus rules and etiquette.  Full swing will be introduced. Cost is $65, a one-time registration fee of $15, plus a ball fee.  Location:  Ahwatukee Country Club, 12432 S. 48th St.
 
Have a little more experience packed along with your golf bags? Brush up with Intermediate Golf (PED 101KC).  One class will be offered for 13 weeks, on Wednesdays, beginning Aug. 15, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Ahwatukee Country Club.  A second class will run for 10 weeks, on Saturdays, beginning Sept. 15, from 12:30 to 3:10 p.m.  This class will be at the Aguila Golf Course, 8440 S. 35th Ave., Laveen.  Cost is $65, a one-time registration fee of $15, plus a range-ball fee.           
 
Students will improve their putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing. Teachers will emphasize the complete game of golf.
 
Meanwhile, intermediate and advanced golfers who wish to improve their full swing may sign up for Golf: Full Swing (PED 102JX).  The 16-week class will be on Thursdays, beginning Aug. 16, from 5:30 to 7:10 p.m.  At Ahwatukee Country Club.  Cost is $65, a one-time registration fee of $15, plus a range fee.
            
Meanwhile, are you interested in improving your short game?  You can with Golf: Short Game (PED 102JX).  This class will run for 11 Saturdays, beginning Sept. 8, from 1:30 to 3:55 p.m. at Ahwatukee Country Club.   Cost is $65, a one-time registration fee of $15, plus range-ball fee.  The course will introduce and develop short-game skills and will improve putting, chipping, and pitching.  Novice players can expect to drop five to 10 strokes from their playing score!
 
Golf: Learning the Game (PED 201JX)  is for golfers of all skill levels.  The 16-week classes will be on Saturdays,  beginning Aug. 25, from 10:45 a.m.  to 12:25 p.m.;  and also beginning  Sept. 8, from 8 to 9:55 a.m.  at Aguila Golf Course.           
            
Students will also learn or improve swing fundamentals, strategic and fundamental putting, and will demonstrate the ability to chip and pitch.  Also to be taught:   individual pre-shot routines, proper alignment, and quality practice techniques.
