8-Hour Emergency Medical Technician Course Begins in January
WHAT
Students seeking to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician can achieve that goal by taking one eight-hour course this spring at South Mountain Community College. Those who complete the class will be prepared to seek national certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
The curriculum provides students with a fundamental knowledge of:
- Techniques of emergency medical care;
- Study of the human body;
- Patient assessment;
- Treatment of medically compromised patients; and
- A variety of emergency medical procedures.
The course also includes participation in two eight-hour clinical rotations through a local emergency department, scheduled during the semester outside normal class hours.

WHEN
Classes meet two days a week, for four hours per session. Two classes will be offered beginning in January:
Section 61208: Mondays and Wednesdays, January 20 – May 14, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Section 61207: Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 19 – May 14, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m.
WHERE
EMT training will take place at the SMCC Main Campus, 7050 S. 24th Street in Phoenix, just north of Baseline Road.
TUITION
The courses are $71 per credit hour ($568) for Maricopa County residents, plus a $100 course fee and $15 registration fee. Students may enroll online at http://my.maricopa.edu.
