South Mountain Community College will hold auditions in February for actors and dancers to perform in Shakespeare’s Othello –  set in Brazil!

You don’t have to be an SMCC student to audition.  Audition dates are: Feb 17 (Sun.), from noon to 5 p.m. for all speaking roles; Feb. 18 (Mon.), 2 to 6 p.m. for movement roles. Callback date is Feb. 19 (Tues.), 6 to 10 p.m.
                
“We are looking for actors of all shapes, sizes, genders, and colors for a staging of Shakespeare’s Othello set in Brazil in 1964, right before the military dictatorship took power,” according to  Laurelann Porter, director.
 
 Included in the cast will be a movement chorus of 6-12 dancer/movers performing choreography based in ritual dance from the Afro-Brazilian Candomble religion.  Dancers and movers with experience in African dance, Afro-Brazilian dance, Latin Dance and/or Capoeira are all highly desired for this production.  Any dancers with a willingness to learn a new style are welcome.
 
If cast, participants will be required to register for the one-credit class: THP 201:  Theatre Production.
 
Performance dates are April 17, 18, and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and  April 20 at 2 p.m. in Performance Hall of the college, 7050 S. 24th St. (just north of Baseline Rd.)
