Desert Dance Theatre will perform “Sister Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman,” at South Mountain Community College on Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.

This contemporary dance company has performed “Sister Moses” for 16 seasons, under the direction of Lisa Chow.

For the third consecutive year, SMCC will bring the group to its Performance Hall as part of its African-American History celebration.  SMCC is at 7050 S. 24th St. (just north of Baseline Rd.)

“Sister Moses” is the beautiful story of a courageous woman’s determination to free her people from slavery through the Underground Railroad.  She was one of America’s first liberated women of color, who fought against all odds for the sake of freedom and equality.

General admission tickets purchased prior to Jan. 31 will be $9 for adults and $5 for students and children. Beginning Feb. 1, general admission tickets will be $12, with students and children at $8. This special performance is co-sponsored by the SMCC Black Student Union.

Tickets are available for purchase online at www.showup.com  or at the SMCC Business Office.
