Jan 19, 2008 - Salsa to Sociology...SMCC Guadalupe Center Offers Variety of Flex-Start Classes this Spring

From writing to salsa .... sociology to art... reading skills to ballroom dancing... a variety of classes will begin throughout the spring at the South Mountain Community College Guadalupe Center.

The classes are among the center’s “flex-start” program; that is, they begin and end on various dates throughout the spring semester.  “Students have many choices of classes, times, and dates, and there’s always something new and exciting going on at the SMCC Guadalupe Center,” says director Raul Monreal.  “It is important to enroll as soon as possible to ensure a space in this popular lineup of courses.”

Classes starting in JANUARY are these one-credit, 14-week classes:  Dance Sampler/Salsa, which begins Jan. 28. Enjoy dancing on Mondays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.;  and Dance Sampler/Ballroom Dancing,  which begins Jan. 30,  on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Beginning in FEBRUARY will be these 12-week classes :  Introduction to Art, starting Feb. 9. This three-credit class will meet on Saturdays from 1:30  to 3 p.m.  Also, Introduction to Philosophy will start Feb. 11. The three-credit class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6:40 p.m. 

Beginning MARCH 17 will be these 3-credit, 8-week classes: Survey of Computer Information Systems, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m.; Fundamentals of Writing,  Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m.;  two First-Year Composition classes will be conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays, one from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.,  the other from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; two Algebra/Anxiety Reduction classes. One will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m.,  the other on Tuesdays and Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Also starting March 17 will be College Reading I on Mondays and  Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; and Introduction to Sociology on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Classes are $65 a credit hour for in-county students, plus a one-time-per-semester registration fee of $15.
