Popular Author and Teacher Stella Pope Duarte will teach Introduction to Creative Writing at South Mountain Community College, beginning Jan. 26.
Writers of all levels are welcome. The process of writing will be the focus, and writing techniques will be presented in a manner that will open the door for beginners, and challenge those who have dabbled in writing and would like to expand their skills, according to Duarte.
“Students will have the opportunity to try their ‘writing wings’ by creating from four different genres,” Duarte said. “Students will explore the ‘writer within’ as they create a memoir, poetry, short stories, and a dramatic scene.” Duarte is the author of several books, including Spirits Dance and Fragile Nights.
The class (CRW 150/Section 7774), will meet at SMCC, 7050 S. 24th St., just north of Baseline Rd., The class will meet from 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. on these Saturdays: Jan. 16, Feb. 23, March 29, and April 26. This “hybrid” course will require at least seven hours of assignments outside of the classroom.
Cost for the 3-credit class is $195 for in-county students, plus a one-time registration fee of $15.
