Storytelling’s not just for bedtime anymore!
South Mountain Community College’s Storytelling Institute has the only formal program established in the Valley devoted to the promotion and study of what is one of the world’s oldest art forms—the oral tradition.
Two classes offered this summer will explore different aspects and uses of the art of storytelling.
First, teachers can learn to incorporate storytelling in the classroom with “Using Storytelling in Educational Settings” (EDU 283/STO 289).
The class provides an introduction to storytelling as a teaching technique for use at any grade level -- from kindergarten through college.
Also offered will be “Biographical Storytelling” (STO 200), in which students will “play” with different points of view in telling the stories of others— family members or famous people.
Each class earns one credit, and meets five times over a period of two and a half weeks between June 5 and 20.
Classes take place at the South Mountain Community College Main Campus, 7050 S. 24th Street, in Phoenix.
Cost is $65 per credit hour, with a registration fee of $15 per semester.
Enrollment is now underway! Students may enroll online by visiting www.southmountaincc.edu or calling 602.243.8123 (English) or 602.243.8135 (Spanish).
