The South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team has been ranked Number 5 in the nation in the NJCAA Division II pre-season poll.
Continuing the momentum that last season led them to a second-place finish in the highly competitive Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (Region 1), the Cougars are the highest ranked Arizona team in the poll.
Coming off a 21-10 season in 2006/2007, the team will return three starters, including Second Team Pre-Season All-American David Cuen.
The SMCC Cougars open the 2007/2008 on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with a home game against the Grand Canyon College junior varsity. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
