A visit from celebrated Latino artist and author Simon Silva will kick off Hispanic Heritage Month at South Mountain Community College in September, with a reception and free public lecture presented on Friday, September 19 at 3:00 p.m.

Silva, the son of migrant farm workers, draws inspiration for his paintings and writings from his upbringing in the fields of California’s sweltering Imperial Valley. He is the author of Small Town Browny, published in 1998.

He will discuss his life and artwork in a presentation in room SU-100 of the SMCC Student Union.  Refreshments will be served, and Mr. Silva’s books will be available for purchase and autographing.

South Mountain Community College is located at 7050 S. 24th Street in Phoenix, just north of Baseline Road.
