Father-Daughter Team Melisa Rose, cellist, and Henry Rose, pianist, will be featured in “Images, Moods and Manifestations...an Evening of Chamber Music for Cello and Piano,” on Friday, Sept. 26, at South Mountain Community College.
The SMCC Music Department will present the duo in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Performance Hall. SMCC is at 7050 S. 24th St., just north of Baseline Rd. Tickets are $10 general admission, and free for Maricopa Community College District students, with valid identification. Tickets are available at Showup.com.
In addition, Melisa Rose will teach a cello master class on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon in Performance Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
Melisa Rose, a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, has performed throughout the U.S. and internationally as a soloist and with various chamber groups. She has performed with members of the Prague- based Martinu Quartet while studying with the group in the Czech Republic. Ms. Rose has also studied with many cello masters — most recently with Vagram Saradjian, while in pursuit of a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Houston, Tex. Her involvement with contemporary chamber music has led the cellist to work with several distinguished composers, performing several U.S. premieres of the composers’ works. Her performances have aired frequently on 88.7 KUHF in Houston.
In addition to her classical work, Ms. Rose’s musical endeavors include folk, experimental jazz, improv, electronic and rock genres.
Henry Rose, a native of Panama, is Director of Keyboard Studies at South Mountain Community College. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Piano Performance and has done advanced graduate work at ASU. With former piano partner Kathryn Rood, Rose developed an extensive repertoire of music for two pianos to which he added several works of his own — including Myxed Colors: A Portrait for Two Pianos, and Accompaniments for Second Piano to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fifteenth Two-Part Inventions.
